Recreational vehicle travelers, with big appetites and the need for frequent stops for fuel, may be the truck stop operators' most overlooked source of potential profits.
It's estimated that, excluding fuel, they spend $8.38 per peson every time they stop. That compares with about $5 in non-fuel purchases by the average trucker.
These figures, taken from a nationwide survey conducted by the American Truckstop Services, shouldn't be taken lightly, says Ken Ragge, new president of the Sallisaw, Okla., company.
