SANTA CLARITA - It was a cruel way for it to end. The first three games of the season, Valencia rallied from fourth-quarter deficits to win in the final minutes.

Sophomore quarterback Mike Herrick started to get the reputation of a magician. The Vikings seemed like a team of destiny.

They wondered when the other shoe would drop, but they never thought it would land this hard.
