JFE Steel Corporation has developed stainless steel pipes that can be used in gas fields more than 5000 metres underground, and as global development of gas fields--which are considerably deeper-lying than oil fields--increases, the company will target sales towards resource development firms.
The seamless pipes contain 15% of chrome by weight, helping them withstand the higher concentration of sulphur and other corrosive gases found at those depths. The pipes' metal all...
