There may be considerably less than meets the eye to last week's announcement of a massive deal for the sale of "up to 100 million tons" of LNG to China over 25 years starting in 2008 from the ChevronTexaco-operated Gorgon field off Australia.

What's more, it now appears that Gorgon consortium partners are planning to take only 2 million tons per year to the US West Coast, not 4 million tons/yr as reported earlier (WGI Aug.6,p1).
