TORONTO _ Gus Van Sant had second thoughts. Not about making a movie based on the Columbine school shootings -- Van Sant, in fact, agreed with Diane Keaton and her producing partner Bill Robinson that it would be appropriate to produce a film about the event quickly, while the horror was still fresh in the national consciousness.
And Keaton and Van Sant thought television, a medium in which he has rarely ventured, would be the most suitable place for such a project, since it is better equipped to react to events with immediacy.
