A twisted heap of 200 cars caught fire at a wrecking yard northwest of Eugene on Saturday evening, sending up a thick black plume of smoke that could be seen for miles. Fire officials said the blaze could burn for several days.

The cars are stacked five to six high in an area about the size of a football field at A&A Auto Wrecking, 92027 Green Hill Road, said Peter Holmes, battalion chief of Lane Rural Fire Department.

The wrecking yard is near Highway 99 between Junction City and Eugene.
