U.S. Ice Cream Scoops Up Sales in Hong Kong

Hong Kong consumers are dipping, licking and spooning more U.S. ice cream than ever before. For the fifth year in a row, the United States topped the list of suppliers of ice cream to Hong Kong in 1990, shipping US$2.5 million worth. U.S. ice cream now accounts for 34 percent of the market in terms of value and 17 percent in terms of volume.

Over the past several years, Hong Kong's ice cream imports have been anything but cold. Total imports of ice cream in 1990 rose 56 percent to US$7.5 million over the 1989 level of US$4.8 million. ...
