Of all the roles Kirov principal ballerina Irma Nioradze has danced, the lead part in Michel Fokine's "The Firebird" is her favorite.

"Only a brave woman can die for love," said Nioradze, "and `Firebird' reminds me of a joke we Russians have. We say that it's better to be in true love for just one day than to be sad for your whole life."
