Although those lines from a Poem written circa 1973 by Madge Paul, a member of The Kirk in Pennfield, N.B., are definitely not Governor General's Award material, they do provide, in their own Hallmark way, a glimpse of the spirit and history of the Presbytery of St. John. It's true the little kirk is no longer brown and, if the poem were to be written today, "men" would naturally be changed to "people," but the fir trees and the Presbyterian faith are still providing shelter.
