Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage says the US is not pursuing a policy of regime change in Tehran and could renew bilateral contacts with Iran if it resolves the issue of detained Al-Qaeda suspects. In a lengthy testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he makes it clear Washington would be circumspect in its support for exiled opposition groups and intends to play only a limited role in trying to effect change inside Iran.
