The National Basketball Association opened the regular season last week without the services of Bloomington-based Champion Air, which had planned to fly 11 NBA teams.

After a two-month review, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) still has not given Champion the approval it needs to add planes to its fleet to transport the pro basketball teams.

The inability of Champion to win timely FAA approval to expand its fleet comes shortly after Champion grounded eight of its 11 planes for several hours on Sept. 26 to address FAA concerns.
