A HIDDEN food poisoning epidemic is sweeping Britain, with as many as 8.3million cases each year, according to a damning study by Government watchdogs.

The Food Standards Agency says the real scale of the problem is far greater than official figures suggest, and it has demanded hygiene improvements.

Some 14 per cent of people surveyed by the FSA said they have had food poisoning in the past year, showing signs of vomiting and diarrhoea.
