WITH OUR different history of revolutionary politics, we British are liable to regard news of an alliance of Trotskyist groups as a pitiful irrelevance. We can point out that a merger in Trotskyist politics is usually a way of turning two parties into three: the merged party and two dissident rumps. The French cannot afford to be so insouciant.
