Two British scientists won Nobel Prizes this year, in medicine and physics, but the UK's successful record in science awards might be coming to an end.
'The last three years give a better impression than is deserved,' said Peter Cotgreave, director of Save British Science. 'Between about 1940 and 1980, someone from the UK won or shared an award on average once a year in the three sciences. Since 1980, that figure has dropped 80%.
