On a warm Indian summer day in Des Plaines recently, thoughts turned to balloon launching, instead of calculations. It was a far cry from accelerated physics class at nearby Willows Academy, but that was just the point.
Physics teacher Orlanda Perez brought her high school juniors to Prairie Lakes Park to conduct their lab experiment last week. After making their own hot air balloons out of tissue paper in class, they launched them outdoors and measured their altitude.
