Walter Payton, Chicago Bears running back, passed Jim Brown as the NFL's all-time leading rusher on this day. Payton rushed for 154 yards against the New Orleans Saints to finish the game with 12,400 career yards. Brown ended his nine-year career with 12,312 yards. Payton made a career of breaking NFL records. After a record-setting college career at Jackson State University in Jackson, MS, the Chicago Bears drafted him in 1975. In 1977 he rushed for 275 yards in one game, breaking the single-game rushing record of 273 yards set by O.J. Simpson. ...
