The second animal highlighted in the Rosamond Gifford Zoo's Halloween animal series is the Egyptian fruit bat.
In contrast to the typical reaction to bats in North America, Egyptian fruit bats are considered symbols of good fortune in their native habitats of Africa, Egypt, the Middle East and Arabian Peninsula. Some people use bats for folk remedies.
