Agency Will Study Compression

WASHINGTON - The National Institute of Standards and Technology has acquired a $1.5 million "video supercomputer" that will help researchers to develop video compression technology, among other things.

NIST Director John Lyons said his organization is recruiting researchers from universities and U.S.-based corporations interested in research on fundamental aspects of high-resolution systems.
