2003 OCT 10 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- An agrobacterium can be used to genetically transform a popular Oriental medicinal plant.
"Scrophularia buergeriana Miq. (figwort) contains a diverse group of bioactive natural products and is used to treat a variety of ailments, including fever, constipation, neuritis, and laryngitis," scientists in Canada explained.
In a study conducted by S.U. Park and coauthors at the University of Calgary, "a transformation protocol was established for S. buergeriana using Agrobacterium tumefaciens."
