A couple of controversial topics dominate this week's motoring news, and they both relate to speed.

Firstly there is the utterly unacceptable number of high-speed police chases, which resulted in more than 30 deaths last year.

It is a major dilemma, because you cannot allow criminals to drive away with impunity, but on the other hand you can't endanger the lives of innocent bystanders with these lunatic high-speed car chases either.
