Ethanol is an important basic chemical raw material. It can be used to produce organic products and esters such as acetaldehyde, ethylamine, butadiene, acetic acid and chloroethane. Ethanol is also a raw material of intermediates for pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, coatings, perfumes, synthetic rubbers, detergents and pesticides. It is an important solvent and has extensive applications in the sectors of pharmaceuticals, sanitary articles, coatings and cosmetics. Another important application of ethanol recently developed is its use as vehicle fuel.
