NO ONE could fairly claim that Germany's Social Democrats lack resilience. Only six months after losing their third general election in a row, they seem oddly sure they will win the next in 1994--maybe even slide into government before then.
The Social Democrats have a youngish (at 51) and widely popular new leader in Bjorn Engholm, premier of Schleswig-Holstein.
