Animal farmers face the never-ending task of manure disposal.

An estimated 500 million tons of the stuff is made each year by the millions of birds, cattle, swine and other animals that help feed a nation.

A typical dairy cow produces 15 tons of manure a year, or about 80 pounds a day. Even an animal as small as a turkey produces about 260 pounds of waste every year.

That's a lot of stuff.
