Five thousand people came Loyola University Chicago Aug. 22 to hear Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh speak about peace, but instead they actually practiced peace. Following the prescription in his new book, Creating True Peace (see related story), the audience members were asked to stay in the present moment and to calm themselves using mindful breathing. That mindfulness, Nhat Hanh would later say, is the key to peace among families, communities and even nations.
