Byline: Michael Collins Post Washington Bureau
When the U.S. military swooped down on Afghanistan nearly two years ago, the first wave of troops deployed to the Middle East included special tactics and special forces units from the Kentucky National Guard.
Army Guard military police units from the commonwealth were among the first ground troops in Iraq when the fighting began there in March.
Kentucky has been well represented in each of the two military campaigns the United States has fought since the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001.
