What started as a Wednesday morning exercise in rail crossing safety almost became a commuters' riot in, of all places, Arlington Heights.
Hundreds of people who normally run around lowered crossing gates to reach the downtown Metra station just before their trains arrive found their paths barred by Arlington Heights police officers.
