Nauru faces a wrangle over the closure of its Washington and Beijing missions.

28 JULY 2003 Nauru (Pacnews) - President Ludwig Scotty of Nauru recently announced the closure of the country's Washington and Beijing missions because of financial problems. He was largely criticised for the move and is now under fire from his cabinet for the decision.
But while President Scotty maintained the decision was within Nauru's means to take care of itself in terms of its financial position, the island state's Washington ambassador today issued a statement, outlining in detail what he thought was the real reason behind the president's move.
