A sultry summer has witnessed a surge in electricity consumption for air-conditioning in Europe that may not end with the passing of the season. While summer power demand peaks are a common feature in the US, where air-conditioning is almost ubiquitous, this is the first time that it has been a prominent summer demand driver in Europe (p7).
