5 CHARGED IN GANG WAR MURDER CASE.(News)

A notorious Lawrence street gang's "code of silence" was smashed yesterday when five of its reputed soldiers were charged in connection with the 1998 mistaken-identity murder of a young man cut down in a vengeance-fueled drive-by shooting.

"The code of silence is gone," declared state police Sgt. Robert Irwin, one of two dozen lawmen who struck at the heart of the Immortal Outlaws. Yesterday's four predawn home raids in Lawrence and Methuen were connected to the murder of Jesus Arroyo, 22.
