Sep. 4--SOLANA BEACH, Calif.--The city has donated $10,000 toward an estimated $140,000 project to open the San Dieguito River mouth to the sea.

The Solana Beach City Council approved the donation by a unanimous vote Tuesday, even though the river itself does not flow through Solana Beach. Portions of Solana Beach's watershed drain into the river, though.
