The best of matchplate molding: Modern Casting asked molding experts to nominate foundries that have implemented the best technology and engineering to make their matchplate molding operation the model of efficiency and productivity. They considered several aspects, including physical layout, mold handling and versatility. In 2000, Acme Foundry was looking to improve the flexibility of its high production matchplate molding line, allowing for more capabilities while simultaneously keeping its costs low. "Our existing matchplate molding line had been installed in 1970, and we were looking for something that yielded a lot more options, such as variable mold height," said Mike Northup, Acme's foundry manager.
