What does Labor want?

This is a question asked in speeches by American Federation of Labor president and founder Samuel Gompers. He may have asked it when he came to Syracuse and spoke before 6,000 people at the annual picnic of the Painters Union Local No. 31 in August 1899. On Labor Day 2003, it is a relevant question, with the abundance of labor issues in the news.
