Clarence Leo Fender, electric guitar pioneer and creator of the legendary Stratocaster, Telecaster, and Precision Bass, died at his home in Santa Ana, California, on March 21 after suffering a heart attack. He was 82 years old. A brilliant, self-taught engineer, Fender's groundbreaking guitar and amplifier designs revolutionized the world of music and provided the foundation for Fender Musical Instruments, which remains as the world's largest manufacturer of electric guitars.
