Dear Carol: We have a patch of Irish moss that was beautiful, lush and green in the spring, but now it is turning brown and dying. Is there anything we can do to save it? Does it require acid soil? - A.S., Syracuse.
Dear A.S.: Irish moss or pearlwort is Sagina subulata. It isn't truly a moss, but the tiny awl-shaped leaves and creeping habit make it look like one.
