Francis P. Murphy of Brockton, a retired judge, died Tuesday at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton following a brief illness. He was 85.
Born in Dorchester, he attended Boston Public Schools. Mr. Murphy went on to graduate from Suffolk University Law School.
After passing the bar in 1964, he joined Prince and Prince law firm of Brockton and worked his way up to partner. In 1968, Gov. John A. Volpe appointed Mr. Murphy to the Plymouth County Probate Court. In 1987, Mr. Murphy retired from the bench and returned to private practice.
