Piety and politics in African Christianity: the roles of the church and the democratization process.

Christianity has never departed Africa. (1) In some ways, the church is now returning to its African roots. (2) Christianity originated in the near East, but it is clear that the church was stronger in North Africa in the first one thousand years of its existence than in Europe. The North African coast produced many apologists who have achieved theological immortality. (3) It was only after 1500 C.E. that Europe became one of the Christian heartlands.
