Software has become an indispensable part of the modern lab. From the software used to operate the instruments that produce the data, to the databases that store the data and the programs that analyze it, software aims to improve the productivity of a laboratory and the quality of its results. Software also aims to provide a new approach to the research process. One area in which this is particularly true is informatics, which has provided new tools with which to find, store, evaluate, characterize, integrate and analyze biological and chemical information.
