Driven by investments in the medical device industry, venture capital investing in Minnesota more than doubled in the second quarter, reaching levels not seen since the first quarter of 2002. Nationally, venture investment was up modestly, ending two straight years of quarter-to-quarter declines.

Fifteen Minnesota businesses received $86 million in the second quarter, making it the strongest showing in five quarters, according to a PricewaterhouseCoopers/Thomson Venture Economics/National Venture Capital Association MoneyTree Survey.
