FARMERS and self- employed people have been given a raw deal in new measures to protect around 770,000 UK workers from excessive hours, it was claimed last night.
From August 1, 2003, the new European Working Time Directive (EWTD) will entitle workers in certain professions to an average 48-hour working week, four weeks' paid annual holiday, rest breaks, health assessments for night workers and an eight-hour limit on night working.
