In the 50 years since James Watson and Francis Crick elucidated the structure of DNA, there has been a fundamental change in our knowledge and understanding of genetics. Moreover, the human genome sequence will act as a roadmap for researchers to determine which genes control which functions of the body, and similarly when these genes are faulty, which diseases occur. Genetics is on the brink of a paradigm shift.
