Shamir sends signal of defiance

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir has given a further indication that Tel Aviv is in no mood for compromise on the Palestine question by appointing Rechavam Zeevi of the two-seat Moledet party as minister without portfolio, with a place on the 13-member cabinet defence committee. Zeevi was elected to the knesset (parliament) as an advocate of the "transfer" of Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip to neighbouring Arab countries.
