Polymer related research at McGill University started in 1912, with the arrival of G. Stafford Whitby, who distinguished himself through his work on rubbers. Another early highlight was the establishment on campus of the Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada in 1927. As a result of the foresight of Carl Winkler, P. Hibbert and others, as the importance of polymers to society has increased over time, the polymer effort at MGill has also grown.
