After a sometimes acrimonious 15-month battle, Carnival Corporation prevailed in its bid for P&O Princess Cruises, beating out rival Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. The deal was approved on April 16 in London, when P&O Princess stockholders accepted the Carnival offer by a vote of 99.7 percent. The move followed a similar action by Carnival stockholders two days earlier in New York.
