Summary
After a discussion of the current research on overtraining syndrome and the involvement of the neuroendocrine and immune systems in the development of this disorder, it will be proposed that overtraining syndrome is primarily an autonomic failure linked to repeated hypoglycemia, possibly exacerbated by viral infections. This hypothesis also has relevance to the etiology and treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome. A case study and herbal protocols are provided to illustrate the principles involved.
