Kemira GrowHow Oy is to replace its oldest nitric acid plant at the company's Uusikaupunki site with a more modem unit. The replacement plant will be the second-hand idled 250,000 t/a Irish Fertilizer Industries nitric acid plant from the company's Belfast site, which has been in mothballs since the company collapsed several months ago. Kemira says that the unit, which is more up to date than the 1960s vintage Uusikaupunki plant, will improve environmental performance and energy efficiency, and hence production costs and competitiveness.
