Jun. 13--No offense, Raleigh, but Durham doesn't want to be associated with you.

At least not when it comes to metropolitan statistical areas, those groupings of cities and towns the federal government uses to compile statistics.

For decades, the region has been defined as the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill MSA. But last week, the federal Office of Management and Budget split that in two.

Now, Durham is its own MSA, which includes Durham, Orange, Chatham and Person counties, ...
