Jun. 11--DAIHATSU BUILDS NEW PLANT FOR COMMODITY ENGINES: OSAKA, Japan--Daihatsu Motor Co. said Wednesday it has built a plant in Shiga Prefecture for production of commodity engines to power electric generators, snow blowers and other equipment.

Built on 53,000 square meters of land in Ryuo Town in May at a cost of 1.2 billion yen, the new plant occupies 4,000 sq. meters and will mainly produce engines of 750 cc and 950 cc, the automaker said.

Manufacturing operations have already started.
