More than a thousand artists from all across Europe have signed a petition demanding a cut in VAT on sound recordings. These artists are demanding an end to an "unjust system" that subjects music to normal VAT rates whereas other cultural products like books, papers, magazines, theatre and cinema tickets benefit from reduced rates, according to a press release published on June 3 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
