The U.S. decision to pull American soldiers back from Korea's Demilitarized Zone makes little difference in the military balance on the Korean Peninsula, analysts say.
"It sounds like a major shift," said Balbina Hwang, Northeast Asia policy analyst at the conservative Heritage Foundation. "But it's just a shift for more efficiency."
Hwang insisted that even further to the south, the American presence would still serve as a deterrent to North Korea.
And that's more or less the attitude across the ideological spectrum.
