1. Can you briefly describe your work in the area of human rights and small arms?

I have been interested for several years in the adverse consequences to human rights caused by easy access and misuse of small arms and light weapons. In August 2001 the UN Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights adopted a resolution authorizing me to write a working paper on the topic. The objective of the working paper was to begin to focus on the small arms issue from the perspective of human rights and humanitarian laws. The Sub-Commission gave a very broad ...
